Being a therapist is a huge deal!! It's such an honor to step into the most vulnerable parts of people's lives and guide them as they find healing, clarity and meaning. It's not easy though, so having someone who has been there to help and guide YOU is not only important, it's ethical.
Choosing me as your Qualified Supervisor is beginning a relationship that I hope will not just last the two years, but your whole career. I offer you a mentorship that allows you a place to explore yourself, get help when you feel stuck with clients and gain an important second opinion that not only helps you, but also your clients.
As your Qualified Supervisor, you work under my license, so the work you do matters to me! THE BIG QUESTION:
Why not just get free supervision at my agency?
Great question. That's a good option and one you should absolutely consider. As someone who has worked at community agencies I know that Qualified Supervisors who offer that free service are overworked and underpaid. Agencies expect them to supervise interns for free on top of all their other responsibilities. Choosing to get supervision privately ensures a solid foundation that only time and attention can provide.
It gives you an opportunity to see that agency work is amazing, but not all that's out there. We can explore a range of opportunities based on your interests like teaching on the college level, opening a private practice, working with special populations and impacting people in need through policy changes and leadership opportunities on the state, national and global levels.
How It Works
20 Minute Free Consultation
Our first step is to meet each other to see if we are a good match. Finding a supervisor is more than just signing off on a paper to get licensed. My job is to help you build confidence, work side by side with you as you improve your skills and prepare you to become a licensed clinician. For that reason we need to see if we are a good match; our values, personalities and logistics like schedules and fees.
Making it Official
If we decide that we are a good match, the next step is for me to write a letter to the Florida Board to let them know that we are working together.
The Requirements
The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling requires the following:
The supervision experience must have consisted of:
At least 100 hours of supervision in no less than 100 weeks;
1,500 hours of face-to-face psychotherapy with clients; and,
1 hour of supervision every two weeks
Weekly Supervision
As you gain hours working with clients at your job site, we will meet each week(-ish depending on schedules) for one hour to discuss your cases, what you're learning, as well as your own mental health and self care routine.
Registered Intern to a LMHC
Once you have completed the requirements, I sign your paperwork, send it off to the Florida Board and we do a happy dance!!
